Basic Manners

Training for real-world situations! We offer several classes ranging from beginner to advanced levels, all designed to help your dog learn basic skills and focus around other people and dogs. These classes will guide you in taking what you've learned and using it effectively on the go.

You can sign up for these classes individually or take advantage of one of our Training Bundles so you can sample all of our services.

Group Classes & Bundles

Basic Manners 1 $229

In this 6-week course, your dog will master essential behaviors like sit, down, stay, come when called, wait, leave it, and walking politely on a leash, along with some fun tricks. We focus on positive, reward-based training to instill good manners and foster a strong bond between you and your dog.

Please note that the first class is an orientation, so leave your dog at home for that session. We offer this class at our Training Center in Roselle Park and Pet Supplies Plus in Garwood.

Basic Manners 2 $229

This 6-week course is the second part of the Basic Training series. We will build upon the foundational skills covered in Basic Manners 1, aiming to enhance the reliability and consistency of behaviors like stay, wait, come when called, and walking politely on a leash. To enroll, you must have completed Basic Manners 1 or an equivalent course. There is no orientation, so please bring your dog to the first class.

Confident Canines $229

This comprehensive 6-week course is designed for students who have successfully completed Basic Manners 2 or an equivalent training program. In this class, we will explore advanced concepts to further enhance your dog’s behavior and responsiveness. We will refine stay, wait, and come when called by incorporating greater distance, extended duration, and various distractions to improve your dog’s reliability in different situations. We will also address specific behaviors and skills that are required to pass the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) exam. This includes polite greetings, walking on a loose leash, and more. Throughout the course, you’ll work closely with your dog to build on the foundation laid in previous classes, ensuring both you and your canine companion can navigate real-world scenarios with confidence.

Around Town Training Walks $29

These weekly training walks will be held outdoors in various locations to practice the skills you learned in Basic Manners 1 or equivalent. You will be able to apply what you learned to more real-world situations to help your dog generalize behaviors and work around distractions. We will be working in parks, downtown areas, and local neighborhoods. The pre-requisite is completion of Basic Manners 1 or approval from one of the instructors.

Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Exam

Ready to earn your dog’s Canine Good Citizen title? This official AKC CGC test assesses your dog’s behavior and obedience through 10 real-world exercises, including polite greetings, walking on a loose leash, and staying calm around distractions. Open to friendly, well-mannered dogs—training class not required but recommended. Upon passing, your dog will be eligible for CGC certification through the AKC.
